Buckley Body Solutions
"Every week, I get texts and emails that make my day. 'My girlfriend told me my chest looks hot!' 'The clothes in the Big Girl’s Department don’t fit anymore. I get to shop on the ground floor for the first time in years.' Even something as simple as getting a text from someone after a session ..."
Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of Buckley Body Solutions! What inspired its creation? Michael Buckley: I was an actor and I went to an actor friend’s beautiful, spacious Upper West Side apartment on Central Park. I was like, “Dude, I know you’re not on a TV show, how can you afford this place?” He said, “Oh I’m a personal trainer.” I thought, “Man, I’ve gotta get into the fitness industry. So, I started my own company.” It started as something that shallow. As it turns out, getting into the wellness business is has been so deeply rewarding on so many levels. Shallow pursuits can reap deep rewards. It’s just like exercise. People start exercising with shallow goals; I want to look good in a bikini, I want a six-pack, I want to make people jealous at my high school reunion. If that’s what gets people in the door, that’s fine. What my clients discover through our work together is that fitness is life changing in so many other ways; they do improve their appearance but also their health, their sleep, their anxiety levels, and, most importantly, their perceptions of themselves.
Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong following in New York and beyond, what are some of your proudest moments? Michael Buckley: It’s so hard to narrow it down because my clients score little victories every time I see them. I have a guy that came to me in his 50s, walked with a limp, couldn’t raise one of his arms over his head, overweight, inactive and a candidate for Type-2 Diabetes. His doctor wanted to perform knee surgery on both of his knees. After a year of working together, he was no longer in danger of developing Diabetes and, through corrective exercise, he avoided surgery and regained most of the mobility in his shoulder. Plus, he lost a ton of weight now looks lean, muscular, and ten years younger! Every week, I get texts and emails that make my day. “My girlfriend told me my chest looks hot!” “The clothes in the Big Girl’s Department don’t fit anymore. I get to shop on the ground floor for the first time in years.” Even something as simple as getting a text from someone after a session, “Thanks! Needed that. Was having a crappy day. Feel so much better now.”
Wanderlust Weekly: The wellness field is constantly evolving, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Michael Buckley: I’m writing a book. It’s kind of a starter kit for new or lapsed exercisers. I love working with people of all fitness levels but in terms of the fitness products out there; books, apps, videos, etc. so many of them are catered to hardcore fitness people. I want to reach the people that need a little help getting started and, after that, sticking with it. The working title is EXERCISE DOESN’T HAVE TO SUCK. Everybody should exercise and it’s my goal to try and get as many people moving as possible. Literally. [ learn more ]
