This Might Be the Coolest Hotel Suite in New York City
With Brooklyn neighborhoods like Williamsburg, Cobble Hill, and DUMBO now becoming major tourist destinations, there’s been a growing demand for more accommodations — stylish ones, at that — in this borough of New York City. One of the borough’s most exciting hotel debuts is 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, a 194-room property which opened this past spring along the East River waterfront. We have a first look at their expansive, three-bedroom, three-bathroom Riverhouse Suite, which features a whopping 2,000 square feet of space, and is now available to book. In keeping with the 1 Hotels ethos of living green, the beds have 100 percent organic cotton sheets and custom hemp-blend Keetsa mattresses.
Reclaimed woods, naked leathers, natural stone, and hand-loomed textiles are used throughout the suite, which features earthy design touches like a moss wall in the living room and ottomans fashioned from rope. Local artists were also tapped to create pieces for the space. Bushwick native Olivie Ponce, for example, did the plastered landscape panels, while John Born created the ceramics, which were inspired by the New York City skyline. The showstopper, however, is Danielle Trofe’s cap-like lampshades, which were grown from mushroom myconium and hang from the ceiling — acting as both artwork and light fixture. This is the third property (and first purpose-built space) from the 1 Hotels brand, which also has properties in Miami and midtown Manhattan. Of course, a suite this sexy will cost you. Rates start at $5,000 per night.
