Harlem Cycle

"Our proudest moments are all centered around our clients. Having new clients who come in because they’ve heard from a friend about our studio warms our heart ..."

Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of Harlem Cycle! What inspired its creation? Tammeca Rochester: My journey to opening an indoor cycling studio in Harlem started when I was looking to find a workout that would both get me back in shape while putting me in a positive frame of mind. I loved riding a bike when I was younger, so naturally after exploring the various workout options, I found myself drawn to indoor cycling. I waited several years for a boutique studio to come to Harlem that would offer a great workout in a community focused environment. After realizing that they were not coming, or that if they did come they would lose sight of the greatness that is Harlem, I figured I would do it myself. My passion for all things Harlem inspired me to establish Harlem Cycle, a fitness studio dedicated to the passion, the soul, and the hustle that defines Harlem.

Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in NYC, what are some of your proudest moments? Tammeca Rochester: Our proudest moments are all centered around our clients. Having new clients who come in because they’ve heard from a friend about our studio warms our heart each time. This lets us know we are doing something right. Sure we’ve gotten some great publicity, the New York Times, NY Mag, Fox 5 news for example, and they’ve all lead to growth but the true moments that define us are when someone who knows us well from taking a class can share their story within their own circle with the people that are closest to them.

Wanderlust Weekly: The wellness field is constantly evolving, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Tammeca Rochester: We are consistently looking for ways to further our impact on the lives of our clients. We’ve now made sure to take a holistic approach to wellness by offering monthly Wellness sessions that include nutrition, meditation, self care as well as cycling. Our goal is to make sure everyone has all the tools they need to live a healthy and productive life from the inside out. We have also a new total body conditioning class, which is as an excellent complement to an indoor cycling workout regimen, that uses low impact HIIT and strength training movements to improve balance, coordination, and core stability.  [ learn more ]
