Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of Heart + Soul Fitness! What inspired its creation? Amanda Camerino: 2 very important things inspired my work with individuals looking to better their health. 1 was I had a very relatable story having been obese as a child. I was always active in sports and very social, however my self-esteem struggled because I did not look like the girls my age. struggling with my weight and not really understanding why. I had no medical conditions or family history. When I was in college I studied Psychology. Psychology was such an interesting subject, learning all about abnormalities that can create imbalance in people. Also it gave me a better understanding of why people engage in certain type of behaviors. It became clear I was an emotional eater. I found for myself, when you go to depths to discovery yourself, you gain an opportunities to also empower others to make more conscious healthy decisions. The growth happened very organically.

Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in New York, what are some of your proudest moments? Amanda Camerino: Some of my most rewarding moments in New York City was accomplishing my 200Hr Teacher Training at laughing Lotus NYC. That was something I had been dreaming of my entire career but was so nervous about taking time away from clients, in fear I would lose them. Instead gained a whole new community on top of the one I currently had. NYC is also the place I met my husband. He is a Clinical exercise physiologist and at the time had just graduated from Columbia University. We meet in the basement of 19th st gym called Complete Body Spa. Those are moments I continue to celebrate in my life. I had two goals when set out for NYC. one was to fall in love, the other was to be an entrepreneur and start a small business. I am forever grateful for my time there.

Wanderlust Weekly: The wellness field is constantly evolving, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Amanda Camerino: As the health and fitness industry continues to grow, my husband and I are having more and more conversations around evolving our business into a Medical Fitness program. This would allow us to combine what we do. Offering education and a place for people who have heart health related issues and diabetes to have monitored exercise with a professional who can answer questions especially questions around medications. In this space we empathize cardiovascular exercise in combination with corrective exercise for injury prevention and Yoga. We have just signed our first lease of on a store front for our gym where we are creating a Yoga flow class in combination with Rowing. Called Yo-Row. We will be rolling out that Program in Santa Cruz, Ca this May! Keep a look out for us! We are hoping to be successful enough to bring it back to NYC.  [ learn more ]
