Moving Strength

"The other amazing event was watching my staff grow and be happy. Helping an elderly man walk again. He had neuropathy in his legs and barely walked 4-6 blocks. At one point we had him walking 10-12 blocks a day.  That is why I do what I do, to help people ..."

Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of Moving Strength! What inspired its creation? Patricia Ruiz: I always loved working with people and helping them out physically and it seemed like the logical progression in my life. I was a full time dancer and spent time running in and out of peoples homes training then in Pilates, Yoga, Fitness and a lot of Physical therapy like work.  So after my second daughter I opened up my first studio.  I figured it was best to have one set location and people can come to me.  I started with one reformer in my living room eventually expanding to a small studio with two reformers.  Leading to my first larger studio on east 82nd street, followed by our west side studio and then third avenue studio. We recently expanded to a small private studio in south Florida as well.

Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in NYC, what are some of your proudest moments? Patricia Ruiz: My proudest moments are doing the demolition and construction of my first studio with my brother, we laid a floor and demolished a wall to gain 9 inches of space, sheet rocked and dry walled, built a bathroom and installed new windows.  All in 30 days.  The other amazing event was watching my staff grow and be happy. Helping an elderly man walk again. He had neuropathy in his legs and barely walked 4-6 blocks. At one point we had him walking 10-12 blocks a day.  That is why I do what I do, to help people.

Wanderlust Weekly: The wellness field is constantly evolving, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Patricia Ruiz: Funny you should ask as Moving Strength is the one and only studio in NYC to have Power Plate classes.  We have created a unique set of classes on this vibrating platform including the following: Pilates Plate strength, Yoga Plates Strength, TRX Plate Strength and more to come.  We even had an article written in Health.com about our ground breaking classes on the Plates. This platform provides more muscle recruitment in less time and faster recovery no matter what area of fitness it is used in. You can see details on our website.  [ learn more ]
