New Curb Your Enthusiasm Episodes Leaked in the HBO Hack
Two weeks after HBO was hit by a massive hack, the fallout continues. Last night, new episodes of several shows from the network were leaked online, weeks or in some cases months in advance of their planned premieres. Among them were new episodes of Larry David's beloved Curb Your Enthusiasm, which will return for a long-awaited ninth season in October. The hackers claim to have stolen 1.5 terabytes of HBO episodes, scripts, and confidential information including emails. Per Variety, their goal is to extract money from the network, which indicated it would not cooperate. "We are not in communication with the hacker and we're not going to comment every time a new piece of information is released," HBO said in a statement, which continues:
"It has been widely reported that there was a cyber incident at HBO. The hacker may continue to drop bits and pieces of stolen information in an attempt to generate media attention. That's a game we're not going to participate in. Obviously, no company wants their proprietary information stolen and released on the internet. Transparency with our employees, partners, and the creative talent that works with us has been our focus throughout this incident and will remain our focus as we move forward. This incident has not deterred us from ensuring HBO continues to do what we do best."
New episodes of Insecure, Ballers, and David Simon's upcoming drama The Deuce were also leaked. The anonymous hacker group has indicated that it will "release the leak gradually every week", and last week released an email from an HBO executive offering a "bounty payment" of $250,000 to the hackers. Pretty, pretty, pretty bad news all around. In lieu of trying to find the leaked episodes online, because you are not that type of person, here's another look at the trailer for season nine of Curb. It'll premiere on HBO October 1.
