Pura Wellness

"My favorite moments have been when we’re going through our sessions and my clients begin to see positive results, and they say 'I wish I had learned this earlier in my life!' ..."

Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of Pura Wellness! What inspired it's creation? Lisa Akinskas: Thank you so much! I have always been interested in health and wellness (I am a pharmacist by background), but the inspiration really came as I was completing a master’s degree. The program I was enrolled in emphasized whole person wellness and lifestyle management. At the same time, i was completing my yoga teacher training. There is such a rich philosophy behind the practice of yoga that you don’t necessarily learn in depth by just going to classes. Beyond the physical (asana) practice, It provides a framework for holistic living and taking care of your whole being (mind, body, and spirit). My interest and work is to find the intersection between eastern and western thought, and how that can be applied in every day life for people who work, have families and other obligations, and not necessarily a lot of free time.

Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in Philadelphia, what are some of your proudest moments? Lisa Akinskas: My favorite moments have been when we’re going through our sessions and my clients begin to see positive results, and they say “I wish I had learned this earlier in my life!”. I had the same realization and it’s really special to be able to share that with others. Making changes in your life isn’t always easy - it’s an ongoing practice that takes a certain amount of time, dedication and consistency. But if you put in the work, you will absolutely see the results. You have to remember those moments when it gets tough and you don’t feel like doing it.

Wanderlust Weekly: We wish you continued success in 2017, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Lisa Akinskas: Thank you! While I do one on one coaching currently, I’d really like to develop some group programs (workshops, seminars, maybe one day a retreat!) to help others find community and continued support as they begin and continue their practice. I’m excited to continue coaching and see what develops!  [ learn more ]
