SANCTUARY YOGA & MINDFULNESS
"We wanted to create a Sanctuary in our hub heart of downtown Philadelphia that was truly a place of respite and refuge for our typical urbanite students living a face-paced hustle and bustle lifestyle that truly welcomes, honors and celebrates all ..."
Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of Sanctuary Yoga & Mindfulness! What inspired it's creation? Kilkenny Tremblay: Thanks very much! Sanctuary Yoga and Mindfulness was really birthed from the longing to have a space that fully addressed and utilized the technology of yoga with its triadic aspects of body, mind and heart in equal measure. I was raised by a yogini mama and a psychologist father and was exposed to working with the practices of yoga & psychology to support development of myself on every level of being, not exclusively on the body as is often the case in our country. However, I have extensive training in intelligent and specific alignment which really is bringing one's mind to enhance the body's experience of itself. So Sanctuary Yoga and Mindfulness' mission is to offer asana with a specialty of excellence in alignment as well as clear and inspiring themes that speak to levels of mind & heart and carried throughout the entire class while physicalized, thus speaking to BOTH the inner and outer architecture of our students. Also noteworthy, is ALL of our classes end with a 3-5 minute seated meditation before Savasana (final resting pose) for part of Santuary's mission is to ignite a meditation revolution in Philadelphia, a practice that I have been passionate about since I was a small child. With this mission to ignite, support and cultivate as many people's meditation practice as possible, we are the only studio in Philadelphia to offer a daily schedule of 1/2 hour autonomous meditation classes which are infused with a myriad of techniques to get people jazzed about this pivotal practice. Sanctuary's ultimate intention is to empower students to take what they experienced on the mat and digest it so fully that they could easily transliterate the fruits and experiences of their practices into their moment-to-moment lives. We are housed in the same state-of-the-art space as my Husband, an amazing healer and chiropractor of Quest Chiropractic www.questphilly.com, so part of our vision is to have a healing haven that offers both active and passive care.
Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in Philadelphia, what are some of your proudest moments? Kilkenny Tremblay: We get comments on weekly basis about the incredible diversity of our student population which makes me exceedingly proud. We wanted to create a Sanctuary in our hub heart of downtown Philadelphia that was truly a place of respite and refuge for our typical urbanite students living a face-paced hustle and bustle lifestyle that truly welcomes, honor and celebrates ll body types; ethnicities; ages and lifestyle and this is truly what has happened. The other week, I walked into my class and I had equal amounts of men and women which has happened on several occasions, and this also makes me exceedingly happy that we have both genders coming at times in equal measure in an industry that is so often heavily female.
Wanderlust Weekly: We wish you continued success in 2017, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Kilkenny Tremblay: Our teacher training programs are exceedingly UNIQUE as we dive deeply into the fundamental curriculum of yogic history & philosophy with our signature excellence in alignment, but anchor it all the context of psychological mindfulness work, meditation, astrology, mythopoetic archetypes from various cultures and other earth based ritual making for a profound and life altering adventure! Plus we have extremely diverse monthly workshop offerings from mindful weaving, to all-things-asana, to vision boarding....again offerings to cultivate alignment in body; in mind and in heart-- in equal measure!
