Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of Studio In The Heights! What inspired its creation? Roderick Priestly: Lisa and I each have about 20 years of experience in the Industry working for large fitness companies and focusing our personal training downtown. We wanted to see if the under-served community of Hudson Heights, that we love and live in, would support a boutique fitness studio....And they were READY!
Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in New York, what are some of your proudest moments? Roderick Priestly: We are proud of the fact that we have brought together a community of individuals that are dedicated to improving and maintaining their health. We are providing a service to the neighborhood that didn't exist before. We are proud of the fact that we are building stronger bodies and minds and we can see the results every day. Our students often share comments like: You changed my life! I love it here because classes are small and the community is so supportive, I felt comfortable to participate and I have no excuses, you are right around the corner.
Wanderlust Weekly: The wellness field is constantly evolving, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Roderick Priestly: In addition to having a staff of qualified coaches offering one to one personal training and wellness coaching; small group classes: high-intensity circuit training, yoga, BARRE, Zumba, and hosting quarterly green cleanses, we are expanding our reach outside of our local community. We are currently organizing a retreat to integrate our vision of how to have longevity as fitness enthusiast or an athlete. Our first one is coming up, June 2nd-4th in Franklin, NY at Heathen Hill Yoga. It is called the Urban Warrior Weekend: Building the Complete Athlete. We are going to take our "urban warriors" out to commune with nature and offer practical tools to deal with this fast-paced life we live in through balanced fitness, yoga and meditation practices.
