"Honestly it’s the most humbling to see the things that take place outside of SYB. I’ll scroll through Instagram and I’ll see three girls from a past trip, people from many different walks of life that just met a few months back, and I'll see they're traveling in the Swiss Alps together on a ski vacation ..."
Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of SurfYogaBeer! What inspired its creation? SurfYogaBeer: (founder Mantas Zvinas) Thanks! I started SurfYogaBeer shortly after arriving in New York City, because I didn't want to lose the active lifestyle developed from my roots in Southern California. The idea was never about building a massive crowd, but creating a community of people to workout together, connect with personally, and most importantly just have fun with old and new friends. So while it’s grown pretty rapidly over the past few years, the connections now run deep and it is crazy how many times people tell us SYB has seriously changed their lives for the better.
Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in New York, what are some of your most rewarding moments? SurfYogaBeer: While it’d be easy to mention things that happen during our trips or events, honestly it’s the most humbling to see the things that take place outside of SYB. I’ll scroll through Instagram and I’ll see three girls from a past trip, people from many different walks of life that just met a few months back, and I'll see they're traveling in the Swiss Alps together on a ski vacation. It's moments like those that are really rewarding.
Wanderlust Weekly: The wellness field is constantly evolving, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? SurfYogaBeer: Surfing! I mean, obviously I’m going to go there. But seriously, while surfing has been around for ages and the sport is only getting bigger, from a fitness standpoint many don’t realize there’s so much to gain physically from it regardless of your experience level. And with mindfulness and meditation being a big trend right now, there’s few other places I’ve found that are more peaceful than floating on your board with only the sounds of the ocean as your personal soundtrack. If you’re in NYC, come check out our Summer Surf Series, or come on a trip and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about! [ learn more ]
