The Twisted Monkey
"Something I think all of our instructors are proud of has been to watch the studio grow by word of mouth....that people are truly becoming part of our family and encouraging others ..."
Wanderlust Weekly: Congrats on the growth of Twisted Monkey! What inspired it's creation? Daniella: Thank you so much! The original Twisted Monkey is my partner Bill Henry. He opened the doors in 2002 looking to share the power of yoga with the community after discovering it late in his life. He soon developed a dedicated hot yoga following and I became one of those devotees in 2008. Bill is a yogi in the truest sense of the word. He is open, welcoming, and creates an environment where everyone feels at home. His greatest priority is to make yoga accessible to all. This is what inspired me and made me fall in love with yoga after moving to the East Coast from Los Angeles. I started taking classes at the studio like everyone else, but soon knew that I needed to do more to help the Monkey spread its message of community, acceptance and non-judgement. Bill took me on as studio manager and fellow instructor in 2012. I officially became Co-Owner in 2015. This past year we have seen tremendous growth, support and love from our community.
Wanderlust Weekly: You've built a strong community following in Rockledge, what are some of your proudest moments? Daniella: Something I think all of our instructors are proud of has been to watch the studio grow by word of mouth....that people are truly becoming part of our family and encouraging others to partake in this community. Personally, I am proud of the teacher training program we've created through Yoga Alliance and of creating our first yoga retreat to the Himalayan Institute this past Fall. We wanted to host a retreat that was affordable and that busy families could attend. The problem with most retreats we see offered is the distance and length - working parents struggle as it is and we wanted to give them the opportunity to experience the benefits of a full retreat on a smaller scale. Again, our biggest goal continues to be to share yoga and make it accessible to all. After all, we wouldn't be here without our members.
Wanderlust Weekly: We wish you continued success in 2017, what upcoming news or developments can we look forward to? Daniella: Thank you! This year is already proving to be a great one for us as our yoga family continues to grow. We plan to continue listening to what our members are looking for and need. We regularly offer workshops, specialty classes like pre-natal, and even a weekly community class that's just $5. We offer beginner classes, hatha, vinyasa, warm, and hot yoga, etc. There is always a variety of options for anyone interested in furthering their practice or starting their journey. We are also happy to announce that we have been approved as a 300 hour teacher training school as well as a continuing education provider. Lots to come in the next year as we continue to spread the love! Thank you so much for the opportunity to share our story. [ learn more ]
